Background


Users often need to share files that may be too large to send via normal email and also require for the files to be shared in a secure manner. Savenet Fileshare is designed for this purpose. Users can also use Microsoft One-Drive filesharing for which there is a separate instruction.


Instructions

If you do not have a login to the Savenet Fileshare please send an email to itsupport@westwardscania.com requesting access and IT will create a user for you on the portal. If you have forgotten your login details please contact us at itsupport@westwardscania.com and we will reset your password and send you the details.


1. When you have your login userID and password enter them here and click on sign in to get started:

2. click on My Files (step 1 below) and then click on New button (Step 2 below) and this will allow you to create a new folder for sharing

3. Choose a name for the folder to be shared and then click on the create button. This folder will hold the files you want to share and you will upload these files to the sharing folder in the next step.

4. Click on Select files to upload button, then navigate to where on your own computer you have saved the files you want to share. Then click on a file/files you want to upload and then click on open to upload the file.

5. Your file/files will be uploaded and you will now see a list of the files uploaded in the folder.

6. Now create the link for sharing by clicking on the picture of the link, then the (+)  and then done button (see figures 6. and 7 below). The link icon will turn light green to indicate a share has been created for it.

7. Copy the link and paste it into an email and send to the people you want to share the files/folder with. They then simply click on the link to view (and the ability to download if you have allowed read/write or read permissions) the files. (See appendix to learn more about setting permissions.)

Appendix: Setting sharing permissions


Permissions can be set on the files to prevent download or the ability to edit the files.


The default permission when you create a shared link is the read permission which does not allow the user to change the file. (They can still download it locally)  


You can also set read/write permission which gives the user the ability to both download and edit the files.


The most restrictive permission is preview only (You can only view the file content within the portal, no download or editing of the file is possible)


See screenshots Figures 11 and 12 below. You can access these settings by clicking on the green "chain-link" icon you created with the share earlier (step 6 in main instruction) and then on the on the edit icon to the right of the copy button.
